What we collect

siliconislands.net is a static website. It has no forms, no user accounts, no third-party scripts, and sets no cookies. The site does not transmit any personal data to any third-party service.

The site processes personal data in two places: the connection metadata recorded by the nginx web server in standard access logs (the IP address of each request, the request line with method, path and protocol, the response status, the response size, and the User-Agent header; no additional headers or request payloads are logged), and the web analytics described below.

Web analytics

The site uses Matomo, an open-source analytics platform self-hosted by Silicon Islands AB on its own infrastructure. No analytics data leaves servers under our control. The tracker is configured cookieless: it stores nothing on your device, no cookies, no local storage, no identifiers.

It records the page viewed, the referring page, and browser and device characteristics. IP addresses are anonymized before storage by masking the last two bytes, so the stored address does not identify a specific connection. The legal basis under the EU General Data Protection Regulation is Article 6(1)(f), legitimate interests, specifically the company's interest in understanding aggregate use of its public website.

Why we keep access logs

Access logs are kept for security monitoring (detecting and investigating attempted abuse of the site) and to comply with legal record-keeping obligations. Retention

nginx access logs are retained for 14 days, after which they are deleted by automatic log rotation. We do not aggregate, profile, or further process the IP addresses or User-Agent strings recorded in those logs. Anonymized analytics records are retained in the Matomo instance for long-term aggregate statistics.

Recipients

No personal data collected via siliconislands.net is shared with any third party. We do not sell, rent, or transfer it.

Your rights

Under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Swedish national law, you have the right to:

• request access to any personal data we hold about you;
• request rectification of inaccurate personal data;
• request erasure of your personal data, where applicable;
• request restriction of processing, where applicable;
• object to processing on grounds relating to your particular situation;
• lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY).
